Kecap Manis or sweet soy sauce is a condiment that is uniquely Indonesian. It is a thick, dark colored and sweet liquid made from black soy bean, coconut sugar, water and salt. The black soy beans are cleaned, boiled and fermented in brine solution for 3 – 4 weeks, once the fermenting process is finished, the beans are cooked with coconut sugar to create the thick texture and sweet flavor.  Kecap Manis can be easily found in every household in Indonesia.
